1540 John Marlowe (Marley) born at Ospringe, near Faversham and Canterbury, son and grandson of tanners.

1560 John Marlowe in Canterbury, apprenticed to immigrant shoemaker named Garrard Rychardsson.

1561 On May 22 John Marlowe marries Catherine Arthur, daughter of William Arthur of Dover at St. George's Church.

1562 Mary, first of nine children, born to John and catherinee Marlowe; six of the nine infancy, four of them daughters.

1564 Christopher Marlowe born in Canterbury. Baptized at St. George's Church, February 26.

1573 Queen Elizabeth in Canterbury on state visit; holds court for two weeks. During year, several persons publicly executed within the city.

1579 January 14, Chistopher Marlowe elected a Queen's scholar at the king's school, canterbury, which has a tradition of theatrical productions.

1580 December, Chistopher Marolwe enters Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

1581 March 17, matriculates. Suceeds to Archbishop Parker Scholarship in May, on the presumption that he intends to take holy orders.

1584 Recieves Cambridge B. A.

1585 Translates ovid's Amores and Lucan's Wars.

1584- Absences from College. Engages in secret goverment service. Dido Queen

1586 of Cathage written (with nashe?). Tamburlaine, Part One written.

1587 March leaves Cambridge. July, receives M,A. upon intervention of the Privy Council. October 2, 1587, letter from Utrecht to lord Burghely mentions one ''Marley'' among government messengers. Before November, Tamburlaine Part One acted by Lord Admiral's Company, possibly in inn- yard, with Edward Alleyn in title role. Tamburlaine Part Two follows closely thereafter, possibly by November. Historia won D.Iohan Faustus publish in Frankfurt.

1588 Robert Greene in preface to Perimedes the Blacksmith refers to ''that Atheist Tamburlan ... blaspheming.'' The Tragical History of Doctor Faustes acted by the lord Admiral's men ?.

1589 Febuary 28, ''a balled of the life and detathe of Doctor Faustus the great Cungerer entered in Stationer's Register. August 23, Marlowe attacked by Greene in Menaphon. September 18, Thomas Watson, coming to Marlowes aid, kills William Bradley in a street fight. Both imprisoned at New gate; Marlowe soon freed. Kyd's Spanish Tragedy acted ?. The Jew of Malta acted by Lord Admiral's men.

1590 August 14, Tamburlaine entered in Stationers' Register and published ''divided into two tragical discources.'' Greene sneers at Tamburlaine in his farewell to folly.

1591 Early summer, Marlowe and Thomas kyd share a study.

1592 Edward II acted by Pembrokes Men . Early in year Marlowe in goverment service at the siege of Rouen. June 23, Privy council closes the London theaters on reports of rioting. Greene reproves Marlowe for ''atheism'' in Groatsworth of Wit. SEPTEMBER 15, engaged in sturggle with William corkine, near the chequers Inn, Canterbury. December 18, Doctor Faustes entered in stationers' Register.

1593 January 26, The Massacre at Paris produced as ''New '' by lord stranges men. May 12, Kyd arrested on charge of atheism; claims hertical tract in his possession belonged to Marlowe. May 18, warrant issued for Marlowes's arrest; apprehended at estate of Thomas Walsingham at Scadbury, kent. May 20, answers charges to Privy Council; ordered to be in daily attendance on concil thereafter. May (or early June), Baines gives Privy council lengthy "Note" dealing with Marlowe's blasphemies. May 30, Marlowe killed in tavern brawl at Deptford by Ingram Frizer. June 1, coroner's juryof sixteen men acquits Frizer. June 28, pardon issued to Frizer on grounds of self-defense. July 6, Edward II entered in Stationer's Register. September 28, Marlowe's translation of Lucan's First Book and Hero and Leander entered Staioner's Register.

1594 May 17, The Jew of Malta entered in Stationer's Register. Edward II in Dido,
Queen of Carthage published.

1596 Marlowe's translation of Ovid's Elegies published without date or license.

1597 Thomas Beard in Theatre of God's Judgements refers to Marlowe's death as
illustrating "the adimirable Judgements of god upon the transgressours of his commandments"

1598 Francis Meres repeats Beard's version of Marlowe's death. Hero and Leander published with dedication to Sir thomas Walsingham by Edward Blount, the publisher, second edition later in the year contains Chapmans continuation and Marlowe's poem divided into "sestiads."

1599 Marlowe's translation of Ovid's Elegies included in ecclesiatical censure and publicly burned.

1600 Marlowe's translation of The First Book of Lucan published in England's Helicon and England's Parnassus. William Vaughan in Golden Grove provides new details
